The American group White Heart has had one of the longest careers in Christian rock, beginning in 1982 with the release of their debut album WHITE HEART and lasting all the way to 1997, when their last album REDEMPTION was released. Through these years they have been considered among the pioneers of Christian rock, and their popularity has not wavered, despite frequent personnel changes. The band's musical style is not totally straight-forward, as it includes a hint of progressiveness.

Первые релизы WITCHERY представляли тогда ещё невиданную брутальную форму thrash-metal. Музыканты стали одними из первых в этом жанре, который затем на некоторое время занял такие же позиции, как metalcore сейчас. Мощные риффы с брутальным, практически «блэковым» вокалом, натуральные и постоянные переходы от thrash-metal к death-metal, а от death-metal к old-school black-thrash-metal завораживали своей злобной энергетикой. Теперь творчество WITHCERY окончательно приняло антихристианско-инфернальный характер. Забавно, что музыка группы изменилась несильно, но вокал Легиона, как оказалось, подходит к ней идеально. Чтобы сделать возвращение боле шумным, шведы привлекли к записи очень известных приглашённых музыкантов, к примеру Kerry King из SLAYER и Gary Holt из EXODUS.
Хороший, очень качественный и забойный альбом для всех поклонников самых брутальных вариантов thrash-metal. Эта музыка не слишком запоминается своими мелодиями, но, безусловно, запоминается своим драйвом.

Previous Witchery albums, although certainly evil sounding in their own right, often maintained a morbid sense of humor about them that gave the impression the band didn’t always take themselves too seriously. Around five years has passed since the release of the group’s last studio effort, “Symphony For The Devil” and Witchery has grown a great deal more serious in the meantime. “Don’t Fear The Reaper” is easily the band’s darkest themed record yet.
As always, Tue Madsen makes the difference at the mixing desk and for the first time, the band has managed to come up with a record that you need not be a Witchery fan to appreciate out-of-hand. Seeking a musical middle ground in comparision to their past efforts, “Don’t Fear The Reaper” sees Witchery taking advantage of slower tempos at times but the primary shift in the band’s songwriting focus lies in the arrangements in particular, with the band making a conscious effort to shift between sounds from track to track, giving the album as a whole a diabolical yet defined character.

Woods Of Desolation — австралийская блэк-метал-группа, основанная музыкантом Dolor в Вуллонгонге в 2005 году. В первую очередь в уши бросается сама фактура звука: он мне показался более сырым, более блэковым, более холодным и мрачным, в то время как "Futility Report" звучал более чисто и жирно, тяготея к звучанию прогрессивных блэкарей, а-ля поздние Enslaved, поздние Shining, Borknagar и т.д. Такая перемена в звуке в общем-то не идет альбому во вред, даже, я бы сказал, именно такое звучание во многом способствует созданию той меланхоличной атмосферы, которая, очевидно, и задумывалась музыкантами.

White Ward — украинская пост\авангард блэк-метал группа, образованная в 2012 г. в Одессе. Взяв начало в корнях сырого депрессивного блэк метала, группа развивает звучание добавлением пульсирующих ритмов и джазовых элементов. Even if you haven’t heard anything by, or know about, veteran New York City singer-songwriter Willie Nile, one spin through his newest rocking entry into a catalog that stretches back to 1980 makes it clear who his major influences are. Nile can count Bruce Springsteen and the late Lou Reed as fans, likely because his own music also captures the gritty, urban poetry of both. He seizes the former’s expansive, widescreen aspirations and resounding power chorus approach on the opening “Forever Wild” (which even sounds like a Bruce title), and closes with a cover of Reed’s “Sweet Jane” which, while it doesn’t redefine the well-worn classic, gives it a shot of adrenaline akin to Mott the Hoople’s version.

Willie Nile, The Bottom Line Archive 1980-2000, is two disc set, separated by a 20 year gap, and is a great example of Niles long term staying power, and the loyalty that Bottom Line owner/curator, Allan Pepper ( booker, or talent buyer does not suffice) extends to the artists that he really believes in. Exhibit A is this double-disc affair, highlighting two distinct eras in Nile s 35-year career. It is worth noting that one of the primary reasons we can enjoy the temporal contrasts contained in this collection is simply because, when Willie was ready to come back, Allan Pepper was just as ready to welcome him back to The Bottom Line. It was a second home for me, gushes Nile. Allan and the whole vibe of the club was so musician-friendly and warm. It was just the best place to play for that reason.
