Flowers in the Dirt is the eighth solo studio album by Paul McCartney. The album was released on 5 June 1989 on Parlophone, as he was embarking on his first world tour since the Wings Over the World tour in 1975–76. It earned McCartney some of his best reviews for an album of original songs since Tug of War (1982). The album made number one in the United Kingdom and Norway and produced several hit singles (the first being "My Brave Face"). The album artwork was a collaboration between artist Brian Clarke, who painted the canvas and arranged the flowers, and Linda McCartney, who produced the cover photography.

When Café Blue was released by Premonition Records in 1994, two things happened. Звучание альбома очень "лохматое" из-за многократных наложений, и, как принято сейчас говорить, "атмосферное", колеблясь при этом от абстрактных звуковых зарисовок до musique concrete. Материал же диска представляет собой трудноклассифицируемый коллаж из невротичных баллад (на этот раз полностью электрических) и грязноватых саундскейпов. Точное определение стиля этого альбома - практически невыполнимая задача, и единственной палочкой-выручалочкой в этом случае является емкий термин "Avantgarde". Вокал Хэммилла здесь безупречен, а его манера игры на инструментах - совершенно нетехничная, нарочито примитивная и неаккуратная - как нельзя лучший аккомпанемент для его надрывного голоса.

После записи великолепнейших работ "H To He" и "Pawn Hearts" в составе Van Der Graaf Generator, Питеру вдруг взбрело в голову обратиться к своим юношеским песням, сочиненным им в бытность свою студентом-физиком. Часть из них он уже удачно выдал за дебют Van Der Graaf'а, а то, что осталось (ну, не пропадать же такому искусству!) скомпоновал в свой первый сольный альбом.

Никаким One Second тут и не пахнет. One Second был ближе к metal'у, в Believe'е же больше роковая направленность, замешанная на Depeche Mode. Альбом для меня кажется продолжением Host'а, можно даже сказать, что переигранным заново. Но это два совершенно разных альбома - как по мелодиям, так и по настроению. И то, что тут много попсовых ноток, ничем не портит сие творение англичан, а даже наоборот - делает более понятным для толпы. От Goth Metal тут совершенно ничего не осталось - ни ударных, ни пафосности. В целом - качественная, зрелая работа. Поклонникам коммерческой рок-музыки слушать обязательно.

К 1993 году Protector продолжают свою эволюцию, звуча более интенсивно и одновременно менее брутально, мельча ставшими изворотливыми ударными, продолжая совершенствовать скупые, но крайне лаконичные мелодии. Трэшовая динамика начинает постепенно брать вверх над отмороженной дэт-метальной молотилкой. Умение играть маневренней, изысканней сервировать нарезку из оголтелых спуртов ритм-секции и проникновенно-атмосферных передышек с участием вкрадчивого вокала и нежно баюкающих соло-партий, как ни странно, нисколько не повредили посылу, который эти немцы впервые решили вложить в свою музыку еще в далеком 1987 году.
