Rebel Yell was released to commercial success. In the United States, the album peaked at number six on the Billboard 200, and it also peaked in the top ten in other countries, including Canada, Germany, and New Zealand. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it double platinum for shipments of two million copies across the United States. Four singles – "Rebel Yell", "Eyes Without a Face", "Flesh for Fantasy", and "Catch My Fall" – were released from the album. The accompanying music videos for all singles received heavy airplay on television channel MTV. Idol's longtime girlfriend Perri Lister can be seen in the front row during the video for "Rebel Yell".

Как будто эта буйная калифорнийская молодёжь действительно учла пожелания благосклонной публики касательно предыдущего альбома, и действительно работала над самостоятельностью и оригинальностью. Или просто слегка подросла, повзрослела? Насчёт оригинальности – это, конечно, дело такое: у одной из многочисленных банд, в открытую играющих под «ретро» (но позвольте заметить, всё же с толковым ясным, но не пластилиновым звуком!), называющейся по одному из классических альбомов бэй-эриа-трэша, да ещё с «классическим» бзиком на комиксах и мультиках, типичным для трэшевых и кроссоверных команд былых дней...

Продажная загнивающая Америка, породившая многомиллионную яйцеголовую нацию, не имеющую национальности и с высоким уровнем потребления, оказывается, может кое-что производить на свет Божий. В данном случае родился альбом, в корне отличающийся от свои предшественников. Совершенно иной подход к игре, диаметрально изменившееся звучание, потрясающий уровень мелодизма, местами слышные пусть и простенькие, но электронные аранжировки, высокотехничная игра ударника, замечательные гитарные соло, причем все это встречается в таком количестве и настолько к месту, что просто душа радуется.

Это неплохой концертник Blue Oyster Cult с отличным звуком, включающий в себя классические вещи «Astronomy» and «Don’t Fear the Reaper». Единственная проблема с этим альбомом – это его продолжительность. Пластинка, включает в себя всего семь песен, две из которых – кавер-версии. Это «Kick Out the Jams» и «We Gotta Get Out of This Place», которые сами по себе не катят, а лишь разбавляют таинственную атмосферу песен группы. При прослушивании этой пластинки я просто пропускаю вышеупомянутые песни, но тогда песен остается всего лишь пять!

Работа, которая любит задавать загадки. Весь альбом – почти неподготовленный для знакомства, аморфный поток сознания, в котором ни одна мелодия или тема не сформулированы четко. По музыке «Odinist» можно определить как авангардно-прогрессивный дум/блэк, а вот по духу это самый настоящий блэк-метал. Без чужих для стиля элементов, без авантюрного нагромождения инструментального многоголосья, сделанный только из аутентичного материала, но, тем не менее, экстравагантный и рассчитанный на эстетов.

Он уже неисправимо заболел хорошими риффами, научился внятно поддерживать тему на протяжении композиции, и, как ни странно, сумел обзавестись дэт-металическим колоритом. Дэт-метал от Bethlehem растворен в иззубренном блэкушном тремоло, теряется в думовых блужданиях, но все равно сделал материал тяжелее, чеканней и убедительней. Эта путеводная нить отныне поддерживает слушателя и не дает ему потеряться среди многообразия ранее не связанных между собой тем. И переборы струн, и отчаянные рывки связанны между собой и воспринимаются как единое целое. Много места занимают декламации, атмосферные эффекты и прочие интерлюдии – не относящегося непосредственно к музыке пространства больше, чем на предыдущих альбомах.
