The concept of the super-group, while not new, has evolved a bit since it was dabbled with in the 60s and 70s. From Cream to ELP to Asia to The Traveling Wilburys, the super-group has always been a productive outlet for both record labels and rock stars either looking for a momentary change of scenery, or a new direction following a breakup. While they seem to have fallen out of fashion from about 1990 on, in recent years, some labels, such as Frontiers Music, have been reinvigorating the idea, albeit with mixed results. Whereas in 1980 a recording producer could play Nikola Tesla with a lab full of exciting new elements and concepts, today that is less so the case. It may be less Tesla, and more of opening up the pantry to see if there is anything to throw together which may resemble dinner. In fact, sometimes today when semi-retired veterans are put into a studio to do an album, many songs feel a bit like reheated leftovers, perhaps unused ideas from yesteryear which may have been better left on the cutting room floor.

Диск феноменально соединяет в себе угарные трешевые риффы, плотные и глубокие басовые партии, низкий и харизматичный вокал Энди Франка (Symphorce) + оригинальные и свежие мелодические решения. Идея использования клавишных аранжировок была успешно задействована ещё на «Metus Mortis», в «Soul Temptation» она нашла, кажется, своё оптимальное развитие, потому как каждая песня благодаря стараниям клавишника Миро Роденберга (Rhapsody, Kamelot, Edguy, Aina, Heavens Gate) подвергнута отпечаткам величественных, эпических и восточных оттенков, что делает музыку группы вообще уникальной, ведь много ли существует групп использовавших настолько своеобразные дополнения в своей музыке?!

Сам альбом получился, конечно, довольно демоническим и мощным, но не таким убойным, как я ожидал. Что, впрочем, и к лучшему, потому что напичканные сверхзвуковыми бластбитами и гитарной пилорамой релизы потихоньку начинают надоедать. Я бы даже сказал, сабж практически вторгся на территорию мелодичного блэка, хотя об этом можно поспорить. Мелодики тут предостаточно, чтобы максимально украсить и разнообразить материал, но вот чтобы считать "Anticross" чем-то, кроме представителя стандартного блэк-метала, ее все же мало.

The Hunter is a concept album based on the theme: searching, pursuing, and hunting. Tracks on the album include Jimmy Destri's Motown pastiche "Danceway", while "Dragonfly" has a science-fiction theme to its lyrics about a race in space. "The Beast" deals with Deborah Harry's experiences of becoming a public figure: "I am the centre of attraction, by staying off the streets". "English Boys" is Harry and Chris Stein's melancholy tribute to "those English boys who had long hair", The Beatles, recorded the year after John Lennon's assassination in New York City, describing the innocence and idealism of the 60's, while "War Child" references military conflicts in Cambodia and the Middle East. The album concludes with a cover version of Smokey Robinson's "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game", originally recorded by The Marvelettes in 1967.

A stylistically diverse album, Boz Scaggs incorporates several genres, including Americana, blue-eyed soul, country, and rhythm and blues. The lyrics are about typical themes found in blues songs, such as love, regret, guilt, and loss. Scaggs recorded the album at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio with producer Jann Wenner, the co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine. The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section heavily contributed to the album, which included a young Duane Allman, before his rise to fame with the Allman Brothers Band.
